Soil Foodweb Workshops

Sustainable Studies Institute, in cooperation with Common Vision, Green Friends and Biologic systems will be presenting workshops with Dr. Elaine Ingham on August 10th-14th. 

The workshops will be located at the M.A. Center in Castro Valley, California. Registration forms and additional information about each class can be found at www.soilfoodweb.com.

2009 Permaculture Courses and workshops taught by Peter Bane, Keith Johnson and associates.

Instructors: Peter Bane (Dipl. Perm. Des. & publisher Permaculture Activist), Keith Johnson (Patterns for Abundance), and guests. Midwestern natives, Peter, and Keith have between them facilitated over fifty permaculture courses and led groups from four to over a hundred students and between them have graduated 2000 design students. They have gardening, building, design, and teaching experience in all regions of the United States.

May 31 - June 14, 2009 - 7th Annual Permaculture Design Course in Paoli, IN.Shagbark and Heartwood, in conjunction with Indiana University's Collins Living Learning Center

Fee: $1140 - for reservations made before 3/31/09; $1290 after 4/1/09, covers facilities, all meals, camping, course materials, instruction, and round trip transportation from Bloomington. Contact Shagbark for information about work exchange options.

Two weeks of camping, course-work, and camaraderie, featuring great meals prepared on site using fresh, local and organic foods at the Lazy Black Bear in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest. Enrollment is limited to 25 IU students and 10 participants from the larger community.

All others apply directly to Shagbark (contact information below); an application form will be sent on request.

Participants will be camping or bunking in cabins for the 2 week course (camping equipment provided for IU students; contact Shagbark for additional lodging options). Composting toilets and solar showers are provided. The course fee covers instruction and course materials, all meals, and camping. An additional fee is charged for cabins.

Students who successfully complete the course will receive certification in Permaculture, which enables them to practice the art and science of Permaculture design.

This course will take place over 2 weeks in early June 2008 at the Lazy Black Bear Retreat Center in Paoli, Indiana, located in the beautiful Hoosier National Forest.

Participants will be camping outdoors for the duration of the 2 weeks. Bathroom and shower facilities are available. Camping, meals and course materials are included. Participants who successfully complete the course will receive certification in Permaculture, which enables them to practice or teach the art and science of Permaculture.

Field Equipment and Clothing

Because Indiana weather is highly variable, we need to be prepared for different kinds of weather, from warm sunny days to rainstorms and cooler nights. The best solution is to bring layers, but we also need to travel light, so all our gear can fit into 2 vans. Here are some suggestions – happy packing!

Field Clothing:

* Sturdy hiking boots (preferably waterproof)
* Warm weather gear (shorts, T-shirts, sunglasses)
* Sweatshirt and long pants
* Comfortable footwear (running shoes, Tevas, etc,)
* Sun hat or visor/sunglasses
* Rain slicker or windbreaker
* Swimsuit

Other Field Equipment:

* Day pack (large enough for notebook, sweatshirt, etc.)
* Sunglasses/sunblock
* Bug spray
* Toiletries (unscented or use those provided - NO PERFUMES PLEASE)
* Personal first aid kit
* Medications
* Water bottle
* Notebook, pens, pencils
* Flashlight

Optional Equipment Which You May Find Useful:

* Binoculars
* Bandanna
* Pen knife
* Compass

* Camera, film, batteries
* Spare prescription sunglasses or contact lenses
* Long distance phone card
* Musical instruments
* Some good reading material

THE 23rd ANNUAL PERMACULTURE DESIGN COURSE 2 Saturday, Sept. 19th - Saturday, October 1st 2009
Colorado Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute

Course Overview: The CRMPI Permaculture Design Certification Course provides participants with an understanding of the essential principles and elements of permaculture, enabling them to better design and engineer sustainable systems including forest gardens, appropriate buildings, greenhouses, and more. During the first week we'll cover the essential elements of permaculture, followed in the second week by a full-spectrum design project. The curriculum includes a variety of classes and workshops essential to every permaculturist's development: from soil structure to the invisible structures of our economy and society.

Tuition is $1,250 and includes a non-refundable $100 deposit. Meals, camping and all curriculum materials will be provided.
